Why do we take communion?

Communion is a beautiful and sacred practice that Jesus gave to His Church.

We take Communion to remember and proclaim the sacrifce Jesus made for us, to reflect on the grace we have received through Him, and to look forward to His return.

Do this in remembrance of me. - Luke 22:19

On the night before Jesus was crucified, He shared a meal with His disciples and told them to remember Him through the bread and the cup.

The bread reminds us of Christ's body, given for us, and the cup reminds us of His blood, poured out for the forgiveness of our sins.

Jesus willingly gave His life so that we could be reconciled to God.

Every time we take Communion, we are proclaiming the truth of the Gospel: Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and rose again!

For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.-

1 Corinthians 11:26

Communion points us back to the cross and reminds us that our salvation is found in Jesus alone.

We take Communion because Jesus told us to remember Him. We remember His body given for us, His blood shed for our forgiveness, His victory over sin and death, and the hope we have because His coming again.

Jesus is at the center of it all.
